DIY Stairway Makeover
Back in 2016, Scott and Julie Hardy were ready for a new staircase. Their home’s existing stairway system was boring and dated. They selected new stair parts from L.J. Smith and Scott got to work installing it himself.
“I pulled out the old maple balusters and put in the new iron balusters,” says Scott Hardy. “Then the rail and posts were painted. There are plenty of videos demonstrating the ‘how-to’ aspect that were a great help and this was a relatively easy project to tackle.”
The Hardys wanted to update their stairway to give it a more modern, yet timeless look. They selected iron balusters from the Horizon Collection and combined them with painted wood handrails and posts from the Cornerstone Collection.
“We were very pleased with the quality of the stair parts we ordered,” says Hardy. “After reviewing our options, we selected the hollow ½” plain square and the hollow ½” double basket iron balusters for the makeover. The finish was good on these sturdy pieces. We appreciated that they each come bubble wrapped and that the shipment was accurate.”
Although the Hardys have moved out of that home, they took with them good memories of the stairway experience.
“I recommend L.J. Smith products to friends and family all the time,” says Hardy. “The service was great and the products excellent. I’d definitely purchase L.J. Smith products again in the future for our next stairway project!”
