1. What material are L.J. Smith stair brackets made from?
Some of our brackets are made from lumber and may be edge-glued and a couple of designs are stamped from plywood material.
2. At what intervals should wall rail brackets be placed?
Ideally at every 2-3’ interval.
3. When is an oval rosette used? When is a round rosette used? When is a rectangular rosette used?
There are several different answers: Oval for narrow handrails and round for wider rails. Oval for wall end width, usually only 4 1/2”. Oval for rake finish or round for level finish. Rectangular for rake finish or level finish. Could even be mixed throughout the system.
4. What is the measurement from the wall to the centerline of the rail when using wall rail brackets?
For LJ-3012 and LJ-3127 wall rail brackets, it is 2-3/4” and for LJ-3128 wall rail brackets it is 3-1/4”.
5. What do you do if the angle on an angled iron baluster shoe needs to be different?
To adjust the angled shoe to the desired slope, grind the short side to make it steeper and grind the long side to make it flatter.
