2022 Staircase Design Trends

From clean modern staircases featuring Iron Balusters to elegant classic staircases, 2021 hosted beautiful staircase designs. So with the New Year ringing in just a few weeks ago, what trends can we expect to see continuing into 2022, and what new looks will show up this year?

Modern & Sleek

The Modern staircase design is one that prominently showed up in late 2020, and this design looks like it won’t be going anywhere in 2022.

Staircases designed with natural wood textures and iron balusters have seen a steep rise throughout the past year. These designs pair perfectly with the modern and minimalist home styles, along with the Scandanavian trend we saw take shape last year. Keeping the staircase simple makes it easy for any designer to style the home to their liking.

Classic & Elegant

It is no surprise that with decorative accents continuing to rise in popularity that classic elegant staircases are also on the rise. Designers are craving more detailed and bold spaces, and to do that they need to bring back the Grand Staircase of the home.

This means that designers are incorporating more elegant curves in the handrails of the staircase, and some are even bringing back curved staircases. Staircases are often the very first impression in a home being located right at the entrance, so these staircases need to match the details of a well-accented home. Every elegant home needs a gorgeous detailed staircase at the center of it.

Maximalist & Eccentric

We have all seen trends come and go and then eventually come back over the years. One trend that is making its way back is maximalism. This style is bringing back decorative accent pieces that were popular in the late 90’s, along with bright colors and wallpaper.

Alessandra Wood, VP of Style at interior design service Modsy believes that maximalism in today's society certainly takes a cue from past eras. "First, those who decorate in that style are like curators of their own space, hoping to showcase a collection of goods they love," she notes. "Second, they are more likely than people who love other styles to believe that their space reflects their personality."
