Upgrading A Staircase For A Seamless Design
Sometimes, all you need to revitalize a staircase are just a few elements. For Erika Ward, that meant swapping out the old and outdated Newel Posts and Balusters with products that matched her home’s design.
Erika Ward with @mrserikaward is the owner and principal designer of Erika Ward Interiors. Erika was chosen as a Featured Designer in the 2021 Fall One Room Challenge, and she decided to take on three rooms in her home during this 8-week challenge; her entry, dining room, and great room. Since her entire home’s style was about to change, she knew she would have to incorporate her staircase into the design for a seamless look.
The Plan
“Home improvement jobs have a domino effect, don’t they? With the walls receiving an upgrade, I had to give our staircase a facelift as well.”
With the whole space getting a major upgrade in architectural mouldings from Novo Building Products, Erika took the opportunity to work with L.J. Smith on her staircase. The plan was to swap out the outdated, decorative Iron Balusters for a more modern and sleek look. She also needed to swap out the very old Newel Posts that had been on her staircase since before they moved in.
Products Used
All it took was one look at L.J. Smith’s website to know exactly what she wanted to use in this space. With her main goal being to create a sleek and more modern look, our Plain Hollow Iron Balusters were the obvious solution. To compliment the minimalism in the balusters, she chose a decorative and elegant Box Newel to elevate the staircase design.
Take a look at the specific products she used in this space below.
Finished Space
Transforming her space in just 8 short weeks was no small feat, yet her space came together seamlessly for the reveal. Combining both beautiful decorative moulding and elegant stair parts, her finished space is exactly what she had pictured in the beginning.
“Our staircase divides the entry area from the great room. We gave it a much-needed facelift by replacing the old newel posts with these hearty and handsome posts by L. J. Smith Stair Systems. Also, notice the clean lines of the new metal balusters. The juxtaposition of the transitional posts combined with the streamlined balusters breathes new life into our staircase. Along each side of the staircase, we added trim moulding to polish the entire look.”
